This elegant nineteenth century home, built from white limestone, glistens in the hot sun. All is light and space, with a very restrained hand behind the simple, clutter free décor and furnishings. The period furniture, high ceilings and four poster beds sit happily with the modern plumbing, spacious en suite bathrooms and efficient air conditioning.
The lush green gardens surrounding the house nestle like an oasis at the heart of a network of 250 lakes, all thanks to the foresight of the early ruler who organised the buildings on earth dams. The startling sight of acres of bright yellow mustard would not have been possible, but for him.
Younger members of the family are still in residence and will delight with entertaining tales of royal life pre-independence.
The eight bedrooms are all quite individual in size and decoration and most open onto the gardens. The other two open onto a huge private terrace overlooking the gardens.
Eat together in the dining room, particularly on colder evenings, or al fresco on summer evenings. Meals are varied and there is a choice between authentic Rajasthani food and European dishes. The chefs will be happy to temper the spices to your taste.
The temptation is to sit in the sun and enjoy the peace. However there is plenty to satisfy the restless – horses to ride, fishing and boating on the lakes and a local town to explore.
You will feel welcomed and cosseted in this peaceful, beautiful place.
