The distinctive red façade and imposing proportions reflect the importance and standing of its builder – Samuel Koder. A member of a dynasty originally from Iraq, his wealth was increased by ownership of a successful chain of department stores and the Cochin Electric Co.. Two generations later, following its sale, it has entered a new life as a boutique hotel.
Just a few minutes walk from the sea, Koder House stands in an interesting and historic part of Cochin. A walking trail, well mapped, leads you around the local points of interest.
Samuel built his house over 3 storeys because he intended his 3 sons to occupy one each. Sadly for him, his family scattered far beyond Kerala, and now 6 suites have been arranged to the right and left of the central portion, the upper ones overlooking the park leading to the beach.
Great care has been taken during renovation to retain the original character, ambiance and the antique furniture, whilst installing the most modern facilities such as internet , cable TV, and electronic safe in each room.
The restaurant and public rooms have a slightly formal air, but the service and cuisine, European and Indian, cannot be faulted.

Lows |
- A property of great historical importance - a priviledge to share
- Perhaps the closest location to the impressive chinese fishing nets and the hive of activitiy which surrounds them - the sea breeze bringing the smell of BBQ freshly cooked fish to tempt you
- The spa facility, a pleasant find in a boutique property
|
- The small outdoor area - although the plunge pool most welcoming after a day sightseeing in the Fort
- There is nothing very kosher or jewish about the restaurant menu but there are many neighbouring restaurants
