Grand, spacious, yet retaining a comfortably intimate ambiance, this hotel has been built on the site of the century-old Boatyard, once an integral part of Cochin’s spice trade.
Set in a tightly controlled conservation area it sits squarely at the harbour mouth offering ever changing scenes of fishing boats, ferries and even dolphins.
Approach from the road and you are greeted by simple, lime washed walls and low, sloping red tiled roofs. Enter the terracotta tiled, vaulted lobby and you will be cooled by the vast punkahs (fans) lazily swaying overhead helped out by sea breezes wafting from the ocean beyond. The giant Rain Tree in the courtyard spreads its shade and anchors you firmly in the history of the place.
26 elegantly furnished bedrooms enjoy views of the busy waterway and large swimming pool. The dining terrace specialises in superb fish dishes, while the main restaurant offers a varied cuisine. In the spacious public areas you will be amused by and may be temped to try out the huge antique pool table.
In the surrounding area you will find references to the long and interesting history of such a significant port. In particular it describes the original grave of the famous explorer Vasco da Gama which is marked by a plaque and brass rails down on the Square. Take a walking tour from around the Boatyard to discover the past.

- The attention to detail, a true boutique hotel - we found the whole history of the chinese fishing nets on the reverse of their luggage labels
- The property is full of history for you to read and digest before heading out to explore Cochin yourself
|
- The blue and white soft furnishings may seem a little stark to those expecting the vibrant colours and fabrics of India - however perfectly fitting with the nautical theme
- The passing boats can seem more audible when everything else is quiet - a pair of ear-plugs will ensure a peaceful night's sleep even for light-sleepers
